Free Agents Market (Pitchers)

This year there were lots of big stars who came out on the FA market. Today I'm going to introduce who transfered to where and how it's going to affect next penant race.

1. Jung Dae-Hyun (SK Wyverns => Lotte Giants)

Jung Dae-Hyun was the most hot issue in this years FA market. It wasn;t just because he is a great pitcher, but he was keep saying that he want to try the major league. However he coudn't contract with the major league baseball team, and he transfered to Lotte Giants. Lotte is known for the best team in hitting. Hiring Jung would make team much stronger, and Lotte became one of the best team in the league despite the absence of Lee Dae-Ho.

2. Lee Seung-Ho ( SK Wyverns => Lotte Giants)

For the same reason as Jung Dae-Hyun, Lotte's pitching ability will be much stronger. Lee Seung-Ho and Jung Dae-Hyun was always the best bullpens in SK Wyverns and they are now both Giants men. Pitchers were always the problem for Lotte, since they didn't have strong bullpens ever. Jung and Lee could be the answer, and last one puzzle for Lotte Giants, who never won in the Korean Series for almost 15 years.

3. Song Shin-Young ( LG Twins => Hanwha Eagles)

Song was a player whom LG really wanted and they finally made him wear their uniforms by trading with Nexen Heroes this season. However, Song is now playing for Eagles. This is very fatal to LG Twins because they don't have any closer now. Song was the closer for LG Right after his transfer but now LG has no one to replace him. Whereas Hanwha, LG's rival this season, got even more stronger although they already have Batista, a certain closer for sure. With Lotte, Hanwha also became stronger throughout this stove league.

4. Lim Kyung-Wan (Lotte Giants => SK Wyverns)

SK Wyverns hired Lim as their new bullpen, but still that is to big lost for Wyverns. They lost two players who are said to be one of the most great relief pitchers in the league. Also, Lim is quite too old and should be doubted if he will do good next season.

From this point of view, which I mean the pitcher part, Lotte made the best effort, whereas SK made huge mistakes.  Hanwha also saw a lot of advantages, since Park Chan-Ho is also coming back from Japan. I really doubt if SK could continue team's recent stats despite the lost of two important bullpens.!!

Next post will also be the FA market analysis, focusing on the hitters' transfer.!!!!

The Golden Glove

Yesterday The Golden golve awards was held in Seoul.
As a winner of the league and Korean series, I expected a lot of Lions players would get awarded. However, only Choi Hyung Woo got a golden glove in outfield position.....

I was hoping at least 3 players, whom were Choi Hyng-Woo, Kim Sang-Soo, and Oh Seung-Hwan.
But the best pitcher was Yoon Seok-Min of Kia Tigers, and the best Shortstop was Lee Dae-Soo in Hanhwa Eagles.

Maybe this could be telling me that Samsung's each player wasn't the best of the league, but maybe it was the teamwork that made the team win this season. Also the good part is that Choi was chosen as the best player among all positions, with 82 percent of agreeing opinions. Choi was definitely the best because it is really hard to hit average of 0.340, 30 home runs and 118 RBIs at the same time!!!!

Next season I hope more Lions could get the golden gloves, since Lions is the best team in Korea!!!

Young Lions!!

Today, I'm not introducing just one player, but players called "the young lions".
As it is written, Young Lions means Lions' players who are young and will be the future of the Lions.
The most repsentative players are Bae Young-Seop and Jung In-Wook.

Bae Young-Seop is a center fielder and is the best table setter in the team. His duty is to get to the 1st base, making steals, and try to score when clean up trios are on the ground. Bae is 25 years old, but he got the best rookie award this season. However he was injured too often, and if it were not for the injury, he could have been even more better. Especially, he was injured his finger in september, and the doctor told him it would take months to get fully recovered from injury. But he craved to play in the Korean Series, and as a result of hard work trying to get back from injury, He could play in the Korean Series. It took only 3 weeks to recover, which was really a miracle.

Jung In-Wook is a hot rookie for Lions' Pitch. So far Lions have Cha Woo-Chan and Yoon Sung-Hwan as korean starting  duo, but experts say that in short time, Jung In-Wook will be one of the best starting pitcher who will lead Samsung Lions to suceed. He wasn't that great in year 2010, but he developed very fast in 2011 and this season his role as a relief was very important and he did good job. Manager Ryu Joong-Il keeps saying that one day Jung will play as a starting pitcher, and I can't wait for it!! What is surprising is that he is only 21 years old!

Samsung is the best team these days but it is really great that the future of Samsung Lions is also promising.!!

Choi Hyung-Woo

Today I want to introduce my favorite player Choi Hyung-Woo, no.1 slugger last season.

T
This season, he was definitely the best hitter in the league. With the average of 0.340 which was second best in the league, he hit 30 home runs and 118 RBIs, which both were the top score in the league.

I love this guy because when he is on the ground, Some kind of  feeling makes me think that he will hit for the Lions. He was a full-time 4th hitter in Lions' line-up, been very promising to the fans. I'm looking forward to next seson, with Lee Seung-Yeop in the 3rd hitter and Choi in the 4th. With Park Seok-Min in the 5th hitter, this could be the best clean up trio in the league.

This season Samsung was called "the team Winning by pitchers". That tells how weak Samsung's hitting power was. However Choi was the ony player who did great for the team, and I'm sure if there were no Choi, Samsung couldn't have won the season and Korean series.

Next season, Lee Dae-Ho is not in the league, so maybe the title for the most homeruns will be Choi Hyung-Woo versus Lee Seung-Yeop. I'm really excited about it and can't wait for it.

Maybe due to the military problem I couldn't be watching all the games next season. But I'm sure Samsung will do good because Choi is in the team.!!!!

Lee Seung-Yeop

Today I'm introducing the most famous Samsung Lions' star player, Lee Seung-Yeop.
Today was very important and happy day for Lions, because Lee signed with Samsung today, coming back in 8 years!!!!

Lee is called "the Home run King of Asia" since he has the title of the most home-runs in a season beyond Asia, which is 56 home runs. I first started to watch baseball when I was 8 years old. From that time I was fan of Samsung Lions not only because I was from Daegu, but also Lee Seung-Yeop was so awesome!!!

In my memories, He always hit more than 40 home runs every season, the best slugger ever. But after 2003 season, he transfered to Japan's Lotte. Then to Yomiuri Giants which was the no.1 team in Japan league at that time, and then to Orix, where he was in until last year.

It's really exciting news for Lions fans, since Lions deosn't have good 1st base player. Lee will be a perfect man to make Lions even stronger. Now that Lee's back, Samsung has strong clean ups, including Park Seok-Min, and Choi, Hyung-Woo.

I'm really excited that I can see Lee wearing the uniform of Samsung Lions next season!!!
I can't wait for it!!!!!!!^^

Kim Sang-Su

Today I want to introduce the most popular player among fans, Kim Sang-Su.
He has lots of women fans, for his cute face, and bright smiling. He plays in short stop, which is very important position when defending. He should cover 2nd base, 3rd base, and also should be good at throwing.

Kim Sang-Su is one of the most famous Short stops in the league, with Kang Jung-Ho in Nexen Heroes, and Kim Sun-Bin in Kia Tigers. Samsung Lions always had the best shrot stops in the league, starting with Ryu Joong-Il in 1887 who is now the manager of the team, and Park Jin-Man in 2004, and now Kim Sang-Su in 2010. They all together are called " THE GOLDEN SHORT STOP LINE"

Kim Sang-Su this season, marked 0.278 , 113 hits and 29 steals. which was a fantastic stats for the table setter. But this guy shines when defending.
He is one of the best defender ever, and since he is just 21 years old, people say that he has the potential of being better player than Park Jin-Man, who is known as the best defending short stop ever.

I'm proud that he is a Lions man. :)

Oh, Seung-Hwan

Called as 'king of the end' or 'the final boss', Oh Seung-Hwan is lions' closer. Lions' fans know that when Oh comes out, Lions win the game.
He is known for his fastball called "Stone fastball", as the hitters say that when he is on the mound, they feel his fastball as if a stone is coming toward them.

Oh is number 1 closer in Korea, and no one will deny on this matter. This season he saved 47 games, which is a tie with the highest score in Asia(It was also Oh Seung-Hwan who saved 47 games in 2006).

He debuted in 2005, but in that year he saved 16 games, making 115 strike outs which is 5th place in the league and the best among closers. Also he was chosen as the MVP in Korean Series when he played 7 innings and made 11 strike outs with no runs.

2006 was the best season for Oh. First of all he got into the national team, and played in WBC. Then in the league he made 47 saves and became no.1 in Asia. In 2007, he made 40 saves, and in 2008 made 39 saves which both ware the top in the league.

However he was injured in 2009 and had hard time for 2 years. People said the show time for Oh has ended. But this season he came back. With 47 saves in the league, he became the MVP of Korean Series again.

He is loved by all Koreans and I'm Proud that he is a Lions' man.

Jin Gap-Yong

Today I want to introduce Samsung Lions' main catcher, and also the captain of the team, Jin Gap-Yong.
Jin has been the best catcher in Korea, until Kang Minho in Lotte became no.1 a few years ago.
He is now 38 years old, but his passion for baseball is still as hot as a rookie player.
This season Samsung won the season and also the Korean Series.
People say Samsung's pitchers are really strong, but you should know that Jin made those players by leading them very well.

Let's look at Jin's record this season
avg: 0.273
HR: 10
Hits: 78
RBIs: 42

Just with the statistics, nobody would think he is a great player.
However, Jin's value comes out when defending.
Ryu Joong-il, the manager of Samsung Lions said,
"There is no person who is better than Jin when talking about leading the pitcher, and also
BLOCKING THE BALL that is about to bounce off and fall back."

Jin doen't have great records but it doesn't matter. As a supproter of Samsung Lions, I would say Jin was the best player this season who led the victory to the Lions.
